Recipe: Apple Cider Sangria

Apparently Apple Week isn’t quite over yet! I have one more fun apple recipe for you. This is one part apple recipe, one part restaurant recreation, and one part festive Fall cocktail: Apple Cider Sangria!

You may remember the delicious apple sangria I had for my birthday this year. I definitely wanted to recreate it at home and since we were having folks over this weekend, it seemed like the perfect time. I also wanted to use up that yummy apple infused simple syrup I made.

This recipe is super easy. The only thing that you really need to keep track of is the ratios.

Kim’s Apple Cider Sangria
1 bottle of red wine (I used Casillero del Diablo)
1 half gallon of apple cider
3 cups apple infused simple syrup
2 apples, sliced into thin pieces
2 limes, sliced into thin pieces

Start by chilling all of your ingredients in the fridge for at least 2 hours before mixing.

When you’re ready to make the sangria begin by cutting up your apples and limes. I like a thin slice on both. Use the ends of the limes to squeeze into the sangria.

Next uncork your wine and get to pouring!

As I mentioned above the ratios are the most important thing about this recipe. My measurements here were:

1 cup wine : 1 cup cider: 1 cup simple syrup

So, in total, I used 3 cups wine : 3 cups cider : 3 cups simple syrup.

I highly recommend making a small batch (1 cup of each ingredient) and taste testing it before you make a full batch. That way you can adjust to your own preferences. My version tasted more sweet/appley than it did boozey (John said “ooooh, that’s dangerous”).

As you add your liquids into whatever pitcher you use (I used our beautiful Simon Pearce pitcher that we got as a wedding gift) continually stir your ingredients so they all come together.

Lastly, add your apples and limes to the top. Pour and enjoy!

This sangria is perfect for Fall and is a great make ahead party beverage.
